MAIL:WWI Accumulation of covers sent to Copenhagen,Denmark, ALL stampless with group of small envelopes bearing TOLNA (Hungary) cds and triangular censor marking in purple (18), larger envelopes with 'K.U.K. OFFIZIERSTATION / KRIEGGEFANGENE / THERESIENSTADT' handstamp and triangular censor in shades of purple (8) and another with red censor, group of fronts with Osnabruck (Germany) special cancel (4) and further envelopes with postmarks of PRAGUE (2), LUGOS (Romania), ZYWIEC (Poland) & BUCZACZ (Ukraine)all with censor markings. Very good lot in better than average condition (32, plus 4 fronts)

SIMLA Indian Red Cross & St john Ambulance War Organisation printed dual colour envelope to Int Red X Geneva sent airmail with Certified Official h/s of the Major General Red Cross Commissioner, Kelvin Grove, Simla. B /4 octagonal h/s on obverse, stamp on reverse tied Simla postmark. Few rust marks, airmail obliterated with two red ink bars as not flown in regular mail.

This was used as an undercover address for South American volunteers serving with British Forces in WW2. Faults. (2).

Amerikanfahrt handstamp in red (Delayed due to cancellation of the first trip to America, the flight finally left on 1st August). 5th August receiving backstamp. Few small wrinkles and staple mark. POSTAL HISTORY - ZEPPELIN POST

1937 (4 May) MAIL VIA AIRSHIP HINDENBURG - Registered cover Tangier to New York originally for airmail transport on the Hindenburg but both airmail and label crossed out in blue crayon and returned to the sender bearing a multi franked GB EDVIII ½d (3), 1d (3), 1½d (3), 2½d (2) tied REGISTERED TANGIER oval cancels. Possibly intended for flight on the Hindenburg which crashed on 6th May 1937. It crashed and burned at Lakehurst Naval Air station attempting to dock. The cover could not be carried on the ill fated ship so it was returned to Gibraltar, backstamped GIBRALTAR 5th May REGISTERED oval and further conveyed by normal means after arriving in New York on 13th May. Unusual and interesting.
