1932 By Graf Zeppelin South America Flight bearing GV seahorse 2/6 brown, 6d purple and 1s bistre tied WIMBLEDON cds cancels on 1st April 1932. Green cachet, red 1932 flight cachet. Attractive example to Buenos Aires.
1933 (6 Oct) Typed env Miami to Indianapolis bearing 50c Zepp air tied MIAMI wavy line cancel and GRAF ZEPPELIN / CENTURY OF PROGRESS / EXPOSITION / DISPATCHED FROM MIAMI cachet in violet, light gum tones. Sieger 242B.
1936 (11 May) Airmail LZ127 LAKEHURST First Flight Frankfurt - Three cacheted multi franked covers each tied NEW YORK machine cancels and violet illus cachet on left, two addr to USA, one to Germany, each have Zeppelin slogan arrival backstamp Sieger 409 C).
1937 (4 May) MAIL VIA AIRSHIP HINDENBURG - Registered cover Tangier to New York originally for airmail transport on the Hindenburg but both airmail and label crossed out in blue crayon and returned to the sender bearing a multi franked GB EDVIII ½d (3), 1d (3), 1½d (3), 2½d (2) tied REGISTERED TANGIER oval cancels. Possibly intended for flight on the Hindenburg which crashed on 6th May 1937. It crashed and burned at Lakehurst Naval Air station attempting to dock. The cover could not be carried on the ill fated ship so it was returned to Gibraltar, backstamped GIBRALTAR 5th May REGISTERED oval and further conveyed by normal means after arriving in New York on 13th May. Unusual and interesting.
Germany: 1931 Graf Zeppelin July Polar Flight cover bearing 4m sepia tied Freidrichschafen 24.7.31 CDS addr to USA and Polar Flight cachet in red alongside with FIRST INTOURIST / EXPEDITION / ICE-BREAKER MALIGN on reverse in violet and French Brise Glace Malyguin / Artique 27 VI 31 on obverse. Fine and scarce for these, Frost 3) 127-127A ($1800).
Group of four covers (faults) incl LZ129 1936 Frankfurt to New York with 50pf & 75pf Zepp defins (heavily toned) and cachet, 1929 USA round the world flight (torn corner), 1925 postcard of Leipzig tied with special cancel sent philatelically, 1936 Brazil multi franked cvr for LZ129 Hindenburg regd to Germany with Brazil - Europe cachet (faults). 1946/7 Cannes Film Festival Group of covers all bearing special Festival Vignettes comprising two dated 22nd Sept bearing 150F green sent to Denmark and Yugoslavia respectively showing cameraman filming 3 aircraft tied with boxed 'Cannes Film Festival H/S in black and special numbered Air vignette in green ; both have been returned. Then another dated the same with different vignette and a 1947 13th Sept card with the same green 150F vignette overprinted 'Rallye Aerien 13, 14, 15 September 1947' tied with red Aeroplane H/S. All very fine and attractive and rarely seen (4).
Bahamas: 1938 Brown envelope addr locally in Nassau sent from Williamson Photosphere bearing ATLANTIS 50 Skoaloj handstamped and tied along with GVI ½d green tied NASSAU cds and label tied ATLANTIS circular h/s. Winged monogram and ATLANTIS WORLD'S FAIR / 1941 h/s alongside. Interesting curio.
Bradbury Wilkinson label perforated 2d EDVII stamp in purple on gummed paper depicting EDVII profile and Naval Destroyer. Nice publicity item.
British Central Africa: 1891 Long Arms Revenue group including 1891 2/6 lilac and red (2), 10s green and red (2), 1893 Surcharged 1s on £1 blue and red (2), all used with usual faults, tones, etc, pretty group, Barefoot 5, 7 & 13.
