1939 (10 Jun) 5c Sower & 40c defins on typed cover to UK tied BATIMENT DELIGNE STRASBOURG hexagonal ship cancel applied twice, Fine. The battleship was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet in WW2 visiting Portugal Britain in this time. Later becoming part of Force X based in Dakar then deployed to the Mediterranean to act as a deterrent to Italy. Later it was bombed in 1942 by the Germans, then again by the Americans in 1944.
