1848 Charles Whiting Composite Essay for Beaufort House, embossed and engraved sheet 220mm x 283mm with four designs taken from the Art Union Journal. Reverse with red and green printed panel ' For Protection Against Forgery'. A few bends and creases along the edges otherwise mainly fine, scarce complete page of Whiting's work.

1855 (11 Apr) Printed OHMS - ROWLAND HILL printed form filling re a missing registered letter to America sent from London to Newton Abbot with PAID red CDS and arrival arc d/s, two printed on GPO Secretary orange embossed paper that,a full inquiry has been made in this country for the missing letter addressed to Mr Richd Tothill (part torn) refereed to in your application without success.... The American Post Office has been written to on the subject and as soon as a reply is received a further communication shall be made to you Rowland Hill (printed) and signed Mr Charles Langley, faults but interesting letter. From 1839 a missing letter branch was formed to investigate missing or stolen letters over 500 indexed cases 1854-56 were recorded, hence the form is acknowledged by the Secretary to the GPO Rowland Hill and must be very scarce.

1859 November 6d Pale Lilac pl.1 envelope sent from Inverness in Scotland to Berlin, then in Prussia, dated November 30th 1859. The env. has an 1856 6d Pale Lilac stamp SG70, Plate 1 (specialised J70(2) and a 1d red perf 14 Die II SG 37-41 (specialised C10) making a total franking of 7d. Both stamps have a duplex cancel with a CDDD with numeral 183 for Inverness and INVERNESS NO3059 (CBP 9/64). Reverse with single ring London transit mark in red NJ LONDON DE1 59 & two receiving marks in black dated 3rd December in Berlin.
