Possibly intended for flight on the Hindenburg which crashed on 6th May 1937. It crashed and burned at Lakehurst Naval Air station attempting to dock. The cover could not be carried on the ill fated ship so it was returned to Gibraltar, backstamped GIBRALTAR 5th May REGISTERED oval and further conveyed by normal means after arriving in New York on 13th May. Unusual and interesting.
