LOT64 POSTAL HISTORY

Crash at Kupang: 1931 (3 April) Printed Airmail 1st flight England to Australia on Imperial Airways long cover to Singapore bearing GV 1s tied London FS cancel. On the section between Singapore and Darwin the aircraft crashed at Kupang in Dutch Timor. Despite the aircraft being a total wreck, nobody was injured and the mail were undamaged and taken on to Australia. This cover arrived on 16th April in Singapore hence unaffected by the crash and accompanied by official typed letter from Imperial Airways about the intended weekly mail service.

LOT65 POSTAL HISTORY

CRIMEA WAR: 1855 (Jul-Oct) Three letters in French by a French soldier at a camp in Sevastopol describing the marches and the army and the military, all in French with some stains and toning but interesting historical documents.

South America: Mainly 1940s censor covers including Argentina (3), Chile plus Colombia 1945 airmail with xmas seal, Uruguay 1914 (2), Costa Rica 1950 redirected to UK from Strand Palace Hotel, mixed. Nice little group. (9).

Undercover Mail: 1940 Dutch cover addressed to A Gossen Post Box 506, Lissabon bearing Dutch censor label and h/s with Lisboa Central arrival backstamps and German handstamps alongside. Upon onward transmission handled by Thomas Cook to UK receiving English censor label and h/s's but not arrival backstamps. Interesting underground mail item.

Also three South American covers August to September 1933 and 1934 S. America then two 1936 S. America flight covers both mailed on board. Some faults overall useful group. (8). Frost $1492.

Only two stamps were required for the regd postcard rate 30k & 1r) and cards with the full set are quite scarce. Frost 4) 127-127F $3000.
