LOT1881 GREAT BRITAIN - MIXED P. HISTORY

1930's/40's A collection of 6 thin single King George VI 2d postcards originally in set of 11. Also 8 unused postal stationery items from King George V and VI. Includes KGV 4½d registered letter. Note minor toning on cards.

LOT1882 GREAT BRITAIN - MIXED P. HISTORY

A selection of approx. 20 covers various monarchs plus approx. 60 receipts with stamps attached mostly King George V but Queen Victoria 1k lilac revenue stamp, most receipts are from companies in Manchester.

Prestamp to EDVII collection of postal history in a photo album with useful noted including 1841 imperf, 1858 1d & 2d plates, ½d pink P/S envelopes incl Maidstone sideways, Scottish combination 1d star pair and 2d blue pl.8 tied numeral Port Augustus roller cancels to Markinch, 1850 Lymington to Devizes, Newspaper Branch EDVII wrapper, Squared circles, prestamp chargemarks. LYNDHURST 89 Mileage mark, Devizes 92 Mileage mark, Borckenhurst SO large skeleton CDS 1906., etc, interesting lot (c56).

LOT1884 GREAT BRITAIN - OFFICIALS

1840 Official QV 1d black VR, letters, letters FF. VFU, with concentric rings target cancel, which was used for cancellation trials, tiny expert repair in LL cnr basically invisible, 4 margins. SG Spec A573, SG V1 cat £35,000 & much under-catalogued. Extremely rare genuine example. RPSL photo-cert

LOT1885 GREAT BRITAIN - OFFICIALS

1884-88 IR OFFICIAL opt QV £1 brown-lilac, wmk 3 crowns, letters BA-AB. Superb M, original gum bit disturbed at top of hinge removal, excellent centring & nice original colour. SG Spec L9, SG O11 cat £75,000 & much under-catalogued compared to non-official opt issues. Great rarity of GB philately with less than 30 M/UN examples recorded, of which most of the others are no gum, regummed or with faults. This original gum example is definitely one of the best quality examples known. Provenance is ex the famous collections of Arthur Hind & of King Carol of Romania. 1987 RPSL photo cert.

Board of Education: 1902-04 2½d ultramarine very fine used neat LONDON 1903 squared circle cancel, very fine for these, premium example, SG O85.

Govt Parcels: 1883 9d green key stamp heavy but sound used MACCLESFIELD rubber CDS, good colour not yet turned and slight smudges so not the prettiest example, SG O63 cat £1000.

Govt Parcels: 1883-1900 Selection including 1/- orange-brown pl.13 heavy CDS used, 1887 6d, 9d & 1/-, 1891 2d, 4½d & 1/- green and carmine with higher vals roller cancels, SG O64, 66/8, O70/2 cat £1375.

Inland Revenue: 1889 1/- dull green mint small part original gum and odd light tones but decent colour, SG O15 cat £900.

Inland Revenue: 1902 1/- dull green and carmine oval regd used slightly smudged cancel, expertised on reverse, slightly off colour but cat £900.

Office of Works: 1902 1d scarlet mint original gum example very fresh and clean with short NW corner otherwise superb, SG O37. Cat £575.

1948 Third Anniv. of Liberation 2½d ultramarine in bottom marginal vertical mint / U/M pair with bottom stamp showing broken wheel variety (U/M), nice positional item, SG C2a. Cat £75.

2003 (9 May) 100 Years of Powered flight superb silver proof coin cover signed John Cochrane co-pilot of 1st Concorde test flight in 1969, limited edition of 500. High retail.

An overfull binder bursting with mint and used all periods laid out on stockpages with some better seen noted 1950s regionals to 2003, incl some FDCs, Postage Dues incl £5 FDC, huge amount of defins and commems to modern, some nice M/S's etc, huge quantity and useful value.

LOT1897 GREAT BRITAIN - ISLE OF MAN

Regionals: 1968-69 4d olive-sepia & 4d bright vermilion (Centre Band) & 5d royal blue (2 Bands) each in a complete sheet of 240 unmounted mint. Fine SG 5/7. Cat £276.

LOT1898 GREAT BRITAIN - JERSEY

1940 German Occupation 'Swastika JERSEY 1940' overprint on GB 1940 Stamp Centenary 1½d brown. Superb fresh unmounted mint, pristine original gum. At the start of German Occupation, the commandant ordered all stocks of GB stamps be delivered to Bigwoods printers & overprinted with a swastika. However, after objections from Bailiff of Jersey & consultations with Berlin, a decision was made not to issue the overprint stamps & destroy all stock. All were then burnt, apart from several sets which were kept for archives or souvenirs. SG JW15 cat £3250+++, much under-catalogued as no examples have been on the market for very many years, & only several genuine examples exist (forgeries being plentiful!). The only unmounted mint example known to us. Great rarity of significant historical importance. 2013 Ceremuga photo cert

1969 3d La Crobiere hinged mint single showing orange omitted variety, very fine, used copy for comparison (mainly the clouds), SG 18b, EC JEY33a. This retails up to £425.
